電影故事原型來自真實傳聞已久、發生在臺中東海大學“女鬼橋”的校園靈異事件：相傳有一位女學生被負心男拋棄，午夜時從橋上跳河自盡，自此那座橋就發生多次靈異現象，故被學生命名為“女鬼橋”。2018年時有一位學生凌晨獨自到女鬼橋直播，期間有網友突然發現直播背景的樹上疑似有一名身穿白衣女子飄在空中。當時這件“撞鬼直播”事件引爆網路討論，《女鬼橋》的故事就由此延伸，更配合一連串以觀眾為第一視角、不間斷的驚悚恐怖場面，務求令觀眾一路驚到尾，直奔最後驚人結局！
